A 28-year-old Irish American mum has revealed how she turned her love life into a profit after joining a dating site which turned provided cash in exchange for dates and companionship.
Living in Missouri but with Irish roots, Laura Tyner revealed that for most dates, she would charge a minimum of $50 (€40) from potential suitors after joining whatsyourprice.com – which offers a platform for users to monetize the process of dating.
Joining the website five years ago when she was 23, she told the Irish Daily Star : “I tried to keep my first date pricing reasonable, and always insisted that on the first meet up it was strictly to get to know each other.
“Most of the guys were agreeable to $50 (€40) and gave me the cash on the meet up.
“I met between 10 and 25 men and I saw one person for about eight months . We were doing long distance dating and didn’t see each other regularly, so I would usually come up for a weekend and he would give me up to $400 (€350).”
Using the money as additional income while she set up her own business, Laura told the newspaper that she could “count on one hand” the number of daters she had a sexual relationship with.
“It was nice when you met guys who just wanted companionship. Some men wanted to have a conversation over dinner. Some men travel for work and are genuinely lonely, I don’t see the shame in it.”
Laura is no longer dating on whatsyourprice.com, and hasn’t been for three years as she’s now married and has a son, but says she would recommend the lifestyle to others as a way of making extra money “in an enjoyable way rather than a job.”
